English introduction
Welcome to the website of the 'Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena'. Our record office preserves and provides access to a wide range of resources, which can be used to research the history of the Land van Heusden en Altena. Today, this region consists of four major municipalities (Aalburg, Heusden, Werkendam and Woudrichem) and is located in the province of Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands.

Our collections, dating from the fourteenth century to the present day, include archives of local and regional governmental institutions like municipalities, law-courts and polder-boards, but also the archives and collections of many private organisations, such as religious communities, societies, associations, families and persons.

Our website is only partly available in English. When researching your family tree, you can use the English version of our genealogical database, which contains information on baptisms, marriages and burials until circa 1811. Scans of the municipal registers ('Bevolkingsregisters') from the period 1810-1940 can be consulted (and partly searched) on line.

The 'Beeldbank' on our website offers a large number of digitized pictures and photographs from the region. Another rich digital source is the regional newspaper, the Nieuwsblad voor het Land van Heusden en Altena (1881-1950).
